For the town in Normandy, see Aube, Orne.'' Aube is a département in the northeastern part of France named after the Aube River. History - Aube was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Champagne (province) Champagne.
Geography - The department is part of the current region of Champagne-Ardenne. It is surrounded by the departments of Marne, Haute-Marne, Côte-d'Or, Yonne, and Seine-et-Marne.The geography, with its chalky soil and undulating plain, is well adapted to wine-growing, particularly the champagne that takes its name from the region.
Culture - Clairvaux Abbey is located 15 km from Bar-sur-Aube. A cheese is named after the village of Chaource.
