    History - Aube was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Champagne (province)Champagne.

    Geography - The department is part of the current region of Champagne-Ardenne. It is surrounded by the departments of Marne, Haute-Marne, Côte-d'Or, Yonne, and Seine-et-Marne.The geography, with its chalky soil and undulating plain, is well adapted to wine-growing, particularly the champagne that takes its name from the region.

    Culture - Clairvaux Abbey is located 15 km from Bar-sur-Aube. A cheese is named after the village of Chaource.
