cleanup-dateJune 2005 Manarola is the second town in the Cinque Terre from La Spezia. It is not as big as Riomaggiore and not as small as Corniglia. The locals are friendly and there is a welcoming atmosphere. We are always willing to sing a "Manarola Blues" at a local tavern. In the summer months, as in all the Cinque Terre, there has been a dramatic increase in tourism, due to many guide books describing the region as "untouched by modern man." This is of course completely untrue, but they say it anyway because it sounds good! Manarola is arguably the oldest of the Cinque terre, with the cornerstone of the church dating from 1160. There are other references from roman times, however, that extol the qualities of the fine wine from the region.The local dialect is Manarolese, which is marginally different from the dialects in the nearby area.Category:Italian Riviera
