In parapsychology, a Mentalist, as opposed to a psychic, is defined as someone who is believed not only to be able to read information mentally, but also to alter that information.While a psychic may claim to observe an underlying spiritual reality and report on it, in a process known as a "psychic reading," a mentalist, by contrast, might claim the ability to manipulate that reality in order to create a different manifestation.

This branch of magic is referred to as "mentalism". Many people accept Mentalism as an advance form of Magic, though some people tend to believe that Mentalism uses much more then ordinary slight of hands. Different world renowned mentalists claim to use special abilities: Derren Brown, one of Europe's ledading mentalists whose TV show received great reviews claims to use advanced psychology. Another unique approach to Mentalism is the use of spirituality; This concept was first approached by mentalist Ehud Segev, aka The Mentalizer, whose show at 42nd street in Times Square received critical acclaim world wide. Others Mentalists include Uri Geller - the father of modern Mentalism. Uri introduced one of Mentalism's foremost effects: The bending of metal cutlery. Some people accept Mentalism as an actual way of presenting the power of the sixth sense while other tend to believe it is based on the use of our five senses in order to create an illusion of a sixth sense.
