    Geography - Palm Beach Gardens is located at 26°49'43" North, 80°6'36" West (26.828588, -80.109965)GR1 .According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 144.9 square kilometerkm² (55.93 square milemi²). 144.85 km² (55.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.45% water.

    History - Palm Beach Gardens was incorporated in 1959 by wealthy landowner and insurance magnate John D. MacArthur. On March 20th of that year, he announced plans to develop 4,000 acres and build homes for 55,000 people. He chose the name Palm Beach Gardens after his initial choice of Palm Beach City was denied. He had a plan for a "garden city" so he altered the name slightly. Prior to development the land was dairy cattle grazing land. Instructions were given that trees that had been growing there for many years would remain and that streets and construction would go around them. Since the arrival of the Professional Golfers' Association of America, in 1965, the city has billed itself as the Golf Capital of the World. Several PGA tournaments were hosted in Palm Beach Gardens in 1971. In 1999, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation sold approximately 5,000 acres in the City of Palm Beach Gardens. This land was developed quickly and there is much new growth in the city. The large Banyan tree that is at the entrance of the city was saved from being cut down in a neighboring town. It cost $30,000 and 1008 hours of manpower to move it, and another one was moved the following year. These trees still remain and are featured on the city shield.

    Demographics - As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 35,058 people, 15,599 households, and 10,217 families residing in the city. The population density is 243.1/km² (629.6/mi²). There are 18,317 housing units at an average density of 127.0/km² (329.0/mi²). The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.70.In the city the population is spread out with 18.7% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.4 males.The median income for a household in the city is $59,776, and the median income for a family is $74,548. Males have a median income of $50,045 versus $33,221 for females. The per capita income for the city is $42,975. 5.6% of the population and 3.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.9% of those under the age of 18 and 3.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
