In questo laboratorio i partecipanti diventano protagonisti e non spettatori passivi nell'apprendere la Preistoria. Vengono utilizzati gli elementi essenziali della natura con ingegno, ragionamento, inventiva e fantasia per raggiungere un fine: costruire un utensile in osso o in pietra, tessere con un telaio verticale in uso nel Neolitico, accendere il fuoco con le pietre focaie o con l'archetto, scheggiare la selce, lavorare la ceramica o pitturare con l'ocra. Tutto ciò solo con l'aiuto dei materiali della natura, delle informazioni essenziali e con l'immedesimazione nel periodo trattato. Nel laboratorio si modifica il rapporto di subalternità che esiste tra il docente e lo studente nella lezione tradizionale. Qui tutti diventano protagonisti, uno sperimentatore che formula ipotesi di ricostruzioni, osserva e analizza, manipola oggetti e strumenti, applica, reinventa o riproduce, riflette sui risultati e sugli errori attraversando le tappe dell'evoluzione umana culturale e sociale. A differenza del museo, dove l'oggetto viene solo osservato, nel laboratorio viene analizzato e ricostruito sviluppando quelle abilità manuali che oggi purtroppo non vengono più esercitate avendo a disposizione tutti gli oggetti già definiti. Passare dalla storia narrata al fare storia, vuol dire anche attraversare in modo orizzontale e verticale il curricolo in un percorso pluri ed interdisciplinare.
