A trucker is a person who is employed as a truck driver (particularly of semi-trailers). They are increasingly in demand for transporttransportation of goods overland. In the United States, for instance, they ship a large amount of goods via the interstate highway system.Another common term for a trucker is "Driver". Drivers are men and women from all cross sections of life. They come in 2 distinct classes. The first is the "Local" driver. This person operates his or her vehicle within a 500 mile radius of their home terminal. The other type is known as an "Over the Road" driver. This type of driver usually operates their equipment from coast to coast and internationally. They may be out on a run for 6 weeks or longer before returning home for a few days rest.To many, the trucker is an icon of the open road.
