Vanpools are vans that are provided by a municipality and used by people to commute to and from a place of work. These public transportation programs seek to reduce the number of cars on the road (with all the attendant environmental benefits).

Additional benefits include -

Speed: The van can use the HOV (High Occupance Vehicle) lines because normally more than 2-3 people ride.

Fixed schedule (makes life more predictable).

Riders typically don't have to pay for gas.
